Angry Invader

I spent 20 minutes chasing a 53-year old man up and down the seafront

And I LAUGHED, I tell you, I LAUGHED.

Shot outside Rezzed 2012 on Brighton seafront for the Develop conference later that month. I’m at 3:01, right behind Peter, rocking a shirt. Man, don’t tell me you wouldn’t dress up to chase the guy who made Populous down the street.

    What the hell was that?
    Who were those people?
Why did the man do a swear?
Is the dog in heaven now?
Were you allowed to touch Peter Molyneux on the willy afterwards?

The dog is actually at the centre of Curiosity now. That's one fact I was able to get from my good friend Pete that day.

I thought about trying to have a chat with Molly about his love of dogs, but unfortunately a lot of people were doing fawning at him, so I decided to save the silly questions and go back into Rezzed to play some games.

I *think* all the people before the Molly bit are assorted developers who attended or spoke at Develop, but that's just a guess.

I totally would have done that too, I think Peter would have out run me though. Seriously, I need to do more exercise.

In truth, me too. I can't get by on pure youth energy any more. But the gym is so boooooring.

Get into doing more cycling. Then take up climbing properly.

Haha, cycling I can get behind but climbing was fun until I reached a 'fitness ceiling' where I knew it would take considerably more exercise to surmount it. And for what? To get a bit higher? Not only that, but it was costing a fair bit too. And my poor old digits get enough hammer as it is. I'm not sure what grade it was exactly that I reached, it was indoors and around 6b, 6c? Something like that. I was quite chuffed with myself because I'd only been doing it for a couple of months. I'm glad I tried it though.

6b/6c is impressive. I've been going for 2 years and that is about my limit now (obviously with no takes). Is that top rope or lead climbing though?

Have started lead climbing and have found myself back down on 5+ and doing a lot of bouldering and exercise outside of the centre just to keep myself in the running for being able to do more than 6a+ with lead climbing.

I'll admit it has been tough cutting down on drinking and then examining my dietary habits to improve but the effort involved is relatively minimal in contrast to other physical pass times.

I am actually contemplating rejoining the gym and just using the exercise bikes, as I'm suffering from a few minor foot problems (which I hope are just temporary) so running is probably not the best idea right now. Then during the warmer months I can cycle outside more.

The main problem is time, and the secondary problem is motivation when you have time. Most exercise is boring, and the stuff that isn't boring (like climbing) – well, getting to it is boring. I had to travel an hour each way across Brighton so it wiped an entire evening, and that was before my partner quit (nowadays she does krav maga).

Hey, wait! I could just get Wii Fit, right?

I'll second that. Time is the biggest issue for me too. Stephen Fry once said that listening to audio books while walking is a great way of exercising while doing something else. I've yet to try that out. It sounds like a good idea.

Definitely not lead climbing, that looked rather scary! It was all top rope for me. My friend who introduced me to climbing was impressed at how quickly I took to it and was doubly pissed off that I didn't stick with it. I think all that time spent recklessly climbing cliffs and trees as a child payed off. It probably helps that I'm a gangly beanpole as well.

I saw a bunch of people in another room bouldering and that looked very physical and demanding. Never done any outdoor climbing though. What I was really impressed with was how there seemed to be an almost equal male/female split at the center I used to go to. Call me a sexist man-pig but I didn't expect there to be as many women scaling those walls. There was even a nice spread of ages too.

Anyway… uh, Molyneux. Seafront. Shaun. Running behind him. Olympic torch. Blah. On topic.
