Baba Yetu - Civilization IV

Baba yetu, yetu uliye!

No QOTW today, but instead a neat bit of news via games.on.net: the theme song from Civilization IV, ‘Baba Yetu’ by composer Christopher Tin, won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s).

This actually happened at the weekend so chances are you already heard about it via one of the big gaming sites, but in all honesty I simply wanted to post this video because the song is excellent… as excellent as the game it’s from, one might say. DEBATE: INITIATE.

(But listen to the song first, and be soothed and inspired.)

Apparently the lyrics are actually The Lord’s Prayer translated into Swahili. Which is… nice?

Meh, the Raskulls end-credit song is better.

I jest, I jest… very nice tune, and an inspired choice for a Civ game, really brings the imagery in the video to life in a more pronounced way than the usual 'epic music' would have done. Makes me want to watch The Lion King though…

Yeah, it's definitely got that vibe to it!
