Torchlight is out, again! – it’s Friday!

The story of Torchlight‘s inception is one of the nice guys finishing first for a change. The two Schaeffer brothers (no relation to Tim) worked on the first two Diablos, then moved on to the ill-fated Mythos and Hellgate: London before coming out with Torchlight.

It’s been a while since a good dungeon crawler came out on any platform so it was nice that the PC version of Torchlight did so well and that, as a result of that success, it was released on Xbox LIVE Arcade this week.

To celebrate this we thought it would be a good time to share Torchlight: the comic.

It’s an ongoing series following the trials and tribulations of Chubbs McBoo (status: wearing sandals) and Mr. Fluffy, which is put together by a friend of Arcadian Rhythms who goes by the name Locke Lyesmith. You can find the entire series here.

As a nice XBLA-relevant post Locke sent us this:

Right, someone properly explain to me what Torchlight is.

    Quickly!

Essentially infinite Diablo-alike with lots of colour and fun, endless loot, and a dog/cat who will do the tedious backtotowntosellunwantedshit bit for you.

I'm assured it's a wonderful and addictive game, but I've only sunk 3 or 4 hours into it on PC.

I shall go check out more of Locke's work this lunchington. Sandwiches and dungeon-crawling, what could be better?

There are new exclusive pets for the X360 version and more random stuff, apparently. The controls have been tweaked so that the button owk quite effectively as hot keys. I have read a couple of very positive reviews and paid for the game. It is just that my X360 has been nowhere near a valid connection so I haven't been able to officially download it.

      Rubbish.

Interested to hear what you think about this one. I fired it up at lunchtime (hooray for Steamworks) and enjoyed a bit of random clickage. Still can't really see it enthralling me to be honest.

My thanks to the badgercommander for the link to my comic!

And Shaun… consider yourself lucky if you don't get enthralled, not since Way of the Samurai 3 have I been this addicted to a game…

That was at 6AM! I am liking the game so far, but it really is about how compelling you find loot.

Also, the advice given to me is, don't play it on normal. The game is way too easy otherwise.
