Something for your ears – it’s Friday!

Something for your ears

Those of us who know, know that the Idle Thumbs podcast and its sequel The Idle Thumbs podcast were some of the best audio related to video games – and that Space Asshole is the most fitting tribute to Red Faction: Guerilla.

They’ve been dead and gone for some time, what with their members – spread evenly across the United States – being busy helping make games and the like.

Well, now they’re back for a brief time on the Giant Bombcast right here. The podcast is a messy one, but that’s what happens when you put a bunch of journos and developers together and get them drunk.

In other news, Yu Suzuki speaks candidly about video games. If you don’t know Yu Suzuki then you are clearly not a SEGA fan (and a curse on you and your family if you aren’t). It’s a pretty fascinating interview which we found via joystiq (let’s be honest, no one one goes to Kotaku after that ill-advised change in design).

Have a good weekend all and see you on the flip side…

Haha, I actually dont mind the change all that much. but then again, I dont comment. After I put it in blogroll view, for me it doesnt change anyway. A lot of space was wasted in the old one anyway.

never heard of any of those podcasts, will check it out for sure.

I hate the new kotaku layout and have not visited it through the main portal since its inception.
Check out the Idle Thumbs podcast, the old episodes are still really entertaining even if the topics are old. These guys have ruined podcasting for me a bit as nothing else is as funny.

      Also, Puffins.

I hate it too. Not enough to make a gawker account just to hijack a news story into a 'redesign bitch fest' by writing an epic post about how I've read it for years and now I can't stand it anymore, but enough to understand why people do that.

I can't say I'm a big fan of it either – as someone who only checks in on the site casually it doesn't seem at all intuitive to me!

Idle Thumbs is/was easily my favourite gaming podcast.

Gamers With Jobs takes the crown for me. Funny, informative, trustworthy reviewage, smart people doing the talking, awesome guests. Is alllll good.

Yeah, they are pretty good, I believe they even had Chris Remo from Idle Thumbs on their show a couple of times.

Until you have listened to them go on about Kangaroo Jack for about 5 minutes, though, you haven't listened to enough Idle Thumbs. Soem of Rodkin, Vanaman, and Remo's discussions on emergent gameplay and just simple things like mechanics and level design has been mouth droppingly inspiring,

I've decided that my Sunday is going to involve firing up some EDF (or possibly GDF – just got a copy on PS2), grabbing a couple of beers and sticking on some podcasts. Oh yeah.

There are now two Idle thumbs conf-grenades to listen to. Well worth it.

Is that the Suda51 game Michigan: Report from hell?

That game is a bit rubbish to be honest

It is! And don't say that, it looks really interesting. ;)

(Also picked up a copy of Global Defence Force: Tactics)
